This weather is fantastic

Karumba Golf Course (18) Karumba birdlife (3) Karumba birdlife (17) Karumba Ferryman Sunset cruise (13) Karumba Golf Course (1)Sunday 23rd August

A gorgeous day in Karumba – 31 degrees! We are domiciled at the Karumba Tourist Park for the next few days & loving it. Many people in the park come & stay here for 3 – 5 months. The weather, lifestyle & fishing are that good! Some of the caravans, boats & 4wds make this boy drool!!!!!!

Late this afternoon we embarked on a sunset tour of Karumba River & Norman River. Karumba is a big port for the shipment of Zinc from the Century Mine out the back of the Gregory Downs near Adel’s Grove. It is also a port for the live cattle trade to Indonesia. The cruise was great as we saw quite a bit of birdlife, saltwater crocodiles & a famous shipwreck.

The sunset was magnificent as was the prawns & free alcohol. This evening we dined at the Karumba Point Tavern right on the water. We both had a seafood platter…..ooom….ah…..lovely. Cheryl says the pokies are rigged though.

Monday 24th August

It would be remiss of us not to thank you for your comments on our blog & Facebook responses to Cheryl. They are truly appreciated. We hope Deb Vince is recovering from her operation & Paul is looking after her as I am looking after Cheryl……i.e. 110% effort…housework, cleaning, driving, cooking etc……you know the drill! Also a big thank you to Zandra whom is looking after our place.

We have heard our neighbour Maddie has been in hospital…….hope things are okay now.

Today was again 31 degrees. This morning we went to the Barramundi Discovery Centre & did a tour of the hatchery. Barra are an iconic Australian sports fish with strict possession & size limits. It was very interesting & we learnt a lot about Barramundi, the ecology & environmental health of the waterways. We actually got to feed the fish & I actually fluked a photo of a Barra taking a squid out of Cheryl’s hand.

The town like lots of Queensland is in drought as they have not had a wet season for the last three years. The birdlife & kangaroos etc. congregate wherever they get a water or green plants. We got some shots at the golf course to show you a local golfing hazard.
