It started in Trawool & ended in Rabaul for so many!!!!!

September 29-30th

Many of you would be aware that I lived in Rabaul in Papua Niugini for nearly 5 years so hopefully the following makes sense. Today, we travelled to Trawool to visit a monument to the 2nd/22nd Battalion. The 2nd/22nd Battalion were formed & camped at Trawool before going to defend Rabaul in Papua Niugini during WW 2. They were known as Lark Force & hopelessly outnumbered against a superior Japanese invasion force. They were routed & it was “all men for themselves”. Over 600 men were lost including 156 at the Toll Massacre. It was quite humbling to reflect on where it all began & where it ended for so many.

We also visited some military stuff in Seymour. Seymour is associated with a fair bit of military history as the legendary training camp “Puckapunyal” is nearby. We found Kelvin Howe’s name on the Vietnam Wall. Kelvin is a cousin of Cheryl & was one of 1400 NSC whom went to Vietnam.

We visited Yea today. Yea is a delightful country town where we enjoyed a lovely lunch & I even managed to pick up a couple of new fishing lures. We are camped by the river but I am yet to wet a line.
