Hi everyone,
Purnululu National Park also known as the Bungle Bungles is accessed through Mabel Downs Station which is where we camped. The park is a World Heritage Area & is located 304 kilometres from Kununurra. It covers an area of 239,723 ha. The Bungle Bungle Range includes a quite extraordinary variety of banded sandstone domes the likes of which we have never seen before. The sandstone was deposited about 360 million years ago & erosion by creeks, rivers & weathering has carved out these domes & spectacular gorges & chasms. The domes have really striking orange & grey bands which are caused by cyanobacteria (don’t ask me what they are!)
The road in is a cracker 4wd station road with numerous washouts & creek crossings & it costs $2,500.00 if you breakdown & must be towed out! The roads in the national park are significantly better maintained. There are numerous walks to do & a lot of them involve & require good agility, fitness & balance so…. we only did the easy ones! (lol)

Did you see the mini bungles in the park at Kununurra?
