We are having a ball & have just had 6 nights in Birdsville. Our major focus was to take in the iconic Birdsville Races which are held over two days & culminate in the Birdsville Cup. For a little community, a long way from anywhere this place really rocks!!!!!
We free camped on the town common (it’s really a claypan) with 3 other Tasmanian couples. We ate a curried camel pie at the Birdsville Bakery as well as a beer in the Birdsville Hotel. We also were thoroughly entertained at Fred Brophy’s Boxing tent which is reputedly the last boxing tent in the world where they take on all-comers!
The weather was great for the cup but sadly our gambling expertise did not make us millionaires or even winners!
