ONLY 13 MORE SLEEPS!

My Mum & Dad introduced me to fishing & camping at an early age & I have had a passion for being outdoors for as long as I can remember. Scouting also enhanced my love of all things camping & taught me many useful skills.

Good quality tents & equipment as well as great friends meant that I enjoyed many successful hiking, camping & fishing expeditions despite the unpredictability of Tasmania’s weather. In 2008 I met Cheryl…….a lady who likes to camp & fish……how lucky am I? We got married & have enjoyed many trips together but began to reconsider our camping options as we wanted to spend less time setting up & packing away…….. & more time exploring, fishing etc.

In 2012 I purchased an eight year old on road Cub camper trailer.

The Cub was in quite good condition & was purchased from the second owners whom were upgrading to a caravan due to advancing years. Most importantly for Cheryl, it had an indoor kitchen to which she could retreat if it rained or the March flies were too thick! We purchased an external awning from Cub & I replaced the middle & rear bows as well as the centre poles. I installed a 12 volt battery system with a Projecta charger & Korr Led lighting system. The troublesome zip on the entry door was replaced as was the winch webbing & a generator & a 12 volt television purchased.

In 2014 we started transitioning to retirement & began planning to do a number of winter trips to Tasmania’s largest off-shore island. We concluded that although the Cub was a great little camper it would not suffice for where we intended to travel & what we planned to do. In the latter half of 2014 Cheryl instructed me to start looking around at other campers & get an idea of what was out there. It had to be a reputable brand, easy to set up, have off road capability & preferably an interior kitchen.

After visiting our local caravan & camping show as well as the Melbourne Caravan & Camping show in February this year we decided on the camper trailer we wanted & put down a deposit in March with a July 20th pick up. We optioned up our Ecomate Traveller Series 2 Forward Fold Camper Trailer with the following options –

  • Hyland Hitch
  • Hot & cold water system
  • Touring awning
  • 20 Amp battery charger & 240 volt system
  • Ensuite Add On tent
  • Boat loader
  • Pantry box & storage drawers

We also have an Engel fridge, solar panels etc.

Roll on the 20th of July…we cannot wait!
