Going where others dream!

Tuesday 28th July

It was a pretty cold night………….2Deg.brrrrrrrr! But turned into nice day. We are sick of the cold & now Cheryl has a cold. Today we spent a good bit of time at the Back of Burke Exhibition Centre which was really interesting & very informative about the people of Bourke, the surrounding area, history & local industry. We found a local café with free WI Fi & were able to post our first blog of this trip.

We also visited the grave of Professor Fred Fellows which is in the shape of an eye which was quite good. I stopped at a bottle shop for Cheryl to get some Sauvignon Blanc medicine for her cold see photo as regards security. In the afternoon we enjoyed an hour long cruise on the PV Jandra on the mighty Darling River. The vessel is a 2000 replica of the original paddle wheel steamer that used to ply the river. In the evening we very much enjoyed a show “Poetry on the Plate” around the campfire which was held at our caravan park. The meal was fantastic & the entertainment first class………highly recommended!

Wednesday 29th July

Today we had planned to travel to Currawinya National Park for 3-4 days but unfortunately due to all the rain the road was closed to vehicles over 6 tonnes……no problem there……….caravans………..no problem there………4wd & camper trailers were okay but not recommended as the road was deeply rutted & travel extremely slow. We were disappointed but took the advice of the local council.

Another very cold night & therefore late pack up before tootling up the highway to our destination of Cunnamulla. We checked out the town & environs & took the obligatory photograph of the statue of the “Cunnamulla Fella”.

Thursday 30th July

Last night was really cold but thankfully we seem to have kissed the rain goodbye. Today we travelled a lazy 200km. north to Charleville & checked into a local caravan park. This area has seen drought for quite a period – Australia is certainly a land of contrast! We were staggered by the amount of roadkill…. It is prodigious. It is nearly all kangaroo whom have obviously been hit at night whilst trying to feed on the grass verge of the road. We also saw quite a few emus.PV Jandra cruise Darling River, Bourke (25) PV Jandra

  1. Hi to you both, pleased to see Cheryl is still taking her medicine!
Good to hear your news and to report all is well at this end. Adrian informs us that he is still managing to run his business OK despite the absence of number one.
    Take care – Luv M & D “G”.
