Saturday 15^th August

We said goodbye to The Isa & headed west to Camooweal. We had a look at the Drovers’ Museum at Camooweal which was small & held little interest for us. We then had lunch at a local park before going to the Post Office Hotel for as cold one. Regrettably we didn’t go to see the sink holes in the national park – we were told it was 4wd only & we would have to hitch & leave EKO behind which we were not prepared to do. Next we went looking for a free camping stop that our friends Vicki & Bob Middleton had told us about. We found a great campsite next to the Georgina River & settled in for the night.

Sunday 16^th August

WE awoke to some nice birdlife on the billabong. We packed up & back tracked 70km to the Burketown Road turnoff & headed for Gregory Downs. The gravel road was reasonably good but we had no option but to travel fairly slowly as we were behind two road trains. We lunched at Gregory Downs near the river before travelling to Adel Grove where we shall be for five nights.

Tuesday 18^th August – Thursday 20^th August

Adel Grove is a magnificent setting with glorious campsites but it is hard to get to this destination. We did some walking & a cruise of Boodjamullah National Park – a truly magnificent small oasis in a very harsh environment. On Wednesday at 11 am at a very serene creek crossing we stopped & reflected on Cheryl’s sister Carlene’s life as this was the time & day of her graveside committal.

Friday 21^th A ugust

We left Adel’s Grove & braved the dirt track & slowly made our way to Burketown where we lunched before heading to Leichardt River Falls to free camp. As you would expect the falls were not running as it is late in the season

Saturday 22^nd August

We were away early on a very dusty corrugated road to Normanton. It took us 3 hours to do 147 km including a short stop to view the Burke & Wills Camp 119 monument. We lunched at Normanton before travelling another 74 km on sealed road to Karumba where we shall be for 4 night’s l
