Two wags & a swag!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thursday 27th – Friday 28th August

Our first destination was the terrestrial centre in Georgetown which is an excellent display of minerals & gemstones from the Etheridge Shire, all Australian states & some overseas mines.

We then headed out to Cobbold Gorge which is on Robin Hood station & is 90 kms from Georgetown. Cheryl & other travellers claimed this was the worst dirt road we had been on. It was so rough the terminal posts were shaken off the blades on the water pump switch!!!!!!!!

Robin Hood Station is a 1284 square km cattle grazing property run by third generation graziers. It has catered for tourists for 20 plus years & has an excellent campground, small bistro bar & swimming pool. The swimming pool was most welcome after travelling in & setting up EKO.

The station also organise fossicking, outback adventure & gorge tours. We booked a gorge tour which started at 1030 hrs with a bus journey followed by an interpretation & bush tucker hike, then the boat cruise & finally the bus journey back to our camp. The highlight for us was the boat cruise down a very narrow & short gorge which is creek fed. Being creek fed is not normal out here as it is very porous sandstone. The gorge has a small population of freshwater crocodiles. We shall let the photos do the talking.

In the afternoon we took a 15 minute helicopter ride over the gorge to get a different perspective. Our pilot was Harry whom was also our boat captain & whom also happens to be the son of the station owners. We had a nice swim & then treated ourselves to dinner at the bistro.
