We love Karumba!

Wednesday 26th August

We loved Karumba & so it was with mixed feelings we got away early. Our first stop was the town of Normanton. We viewed a life size replica of Krys the Savannah King. Krys is 8.63 metres in length & was shot in 1957 & is the largest saltwater crocodile in the world ever to be captured. Thank heavens we did not see any big ones in Karumba.

Our next part of the journey took us to the old town of Croydon but along the way we saw the famous “Gulf lander” train making its weekly journey from Normanton to Croydon. We lunched at Croydon before travelling to Georgetown for the night. This whole areas has a rich mining history & we stopped at the Cumberland Chimney ruins 20 kms before Georgetown for a look.

The swim I the caravan park pool was most refreshing.Normanton - Krys the Croc (1) Normanton - Krys the Croc (5)
