September 9th – 13th
We departed Bowen but soon stopped at the Big Mango for the obligatory photo. We then travelled on to Airlie Beach then Proserpine & finally to our overnight destination of Mackay. We saw plenty of macadamia trees & mangoes. Cheryl has never seen these towns before & it has been 27 years since I lived in Mackay – the towns have really grown & changed & the road structure is quite different. I could not locate my old house.
The next day saw us travelling from Mackay to Rockhampton & was the most boring day on the road we have experienced. Unfortunately the scenery is quite non-descript & we also got caught in a long line of traffic caused by two caravans travelling close together. We stayed in Rocky overnight & this time I was successful in locating the house where I used to live. Rocky has also changed significantly but they have kept a lot of the old buildings.
Our next destination was a short way to Gladstone. Gladstone is major industrial centre. We caught up with Tim & Karen Swifte with whom we stayed. We enjoyed a nice meal at the yacht club.
After a good night’s rest in a real bed & a hearty breakfast we travelled down to the town of Seventeenseventy where we walked along the beach with Gillie & George having a ball. For those of you that do not know G & G are the most loved & well behaved dogs in the world! & belong to Tim & Karen whom had also come down to SeventeenSeventy. I will wager my Dad will be looking up the town of Seventeenseventy as he knows a lot about Captain Cook. After a drink we said goodbye & motored on down to Bundaberg passing heaps of sugar cane & macadamia trees.
We overnighted in Bundaberg & this morning I showed Cheryl the town plus we located my old house. We then travelled to Hervey Bay via Childers. We plan to be here for three nights.

Enjoy Hervey Bay, we loved it, are you going to Fraser Island too?
