Hi to all,
Today, before we left Karratha we deliberately booked a caravan park in Broome for the 10th to 15th July because we know it will be the school holidays & this popular tourist location will be very popular. Our time there will coincide with the 3 day “Staircase to the Moon” window so we are hoping for clear weather.
After Karratha, we travelled north through Roeburne & then east on the gravel through Pyramid Station & some wonderful scenery. The country is known as the “Pilbara” & is looking great because they had some good rain over the summer. The gravel road got worse & worse the more we travelled inland with large sections of corrugations. We had the good luck to come upon an iron ore train which seemed about 3 miles long!

Eventually, after poor Cheryl had been shaken to bits, we made it to our campsite for the next 2 nights. We are at The Stargazer Camping ground in Millstream Chichester National Park. The 240,000-hectare national park has winding tree lined watercourses, rolling spinifex hills & some spectacular escarpments. In contrast, there are some wetlands at Millstream as well.

It was interesting to cross the Fortescue River again & we know we are going to see it again further inland at another national park. As you would expect there are a few diverse walks to be done in the park as well as checking out the old homestead building which is now a visitor centre & the nearby wetlands. On our way, back to Karratha along that bone jarring road again we visited the Python Pool & were rewarded with some great reflections which we hope will translate to good photos.

Our route back to Karratha took us right to the town & we were fortunate to see numerous iron ore trains. The trains are awesome & were all more than 2 kilometres long.
