We are having a ball – weather is great & have had some magic entertainment around the campfire!

Hi to everyone & thankyou for reading our blog as well as your comments. We stayed at Manbulloo Station for 3 nights & what a pleasant little campground it turned out to be. The station is situated about 12 kilometres from Katherine on the banks of the river. Whilst in Katherine we visited the museum & hot springs as well as The Katherine School of The Air. The tour of the school was very enlightening & well recommended. We also caught up with David Lewis ( a former schoolmate of my youngest brother) whom teaches at the school.  We went for a quiet ale at the RSL club where we enjoyed a scrumptious Beef Schnitzel.  Whilst at the station there was live entertainment each night. Whilst staying at the station we were able to wash ‘Lightning” & ‘Wally”.  We feel like we are no longer travelling with half the Pilbara & Kimberly on our vehicles!!!

After Katherine we travelled south a hundred kilometres or so & camped out at Elsey National Park near Mataranka which had fabulous facilities & where we enjoyed camp oven roast honey chicken because we were able to have our own fire. We checked out the replica of the Elsey Homestead which was used in the film “We of the Never Never” & had a lovely dip in the hot springs.

Camp oven chicken …does it get any better!
Mataranka Hot Springs

Next day we travelled to Daly Waters where we checked out the iconic pub, enjoyed a swim & had a great beef & barra meal followed by live entertainment.

Stephen at the Daly Waters Pub. He had no idea why I wanted him to stand here for the photo!

We continued south to our next stop at Banka Banka Station for the night. This little unpowered park was a gem & we again had live entertainment around the campfire. Today we continued south a bit & then turned east onto the Barkly Highway toward the Queensland border. Tonight we shall stay at Barkly Homestead.

  1. Wow guys. What an amazing trip you are having. Will be great to see your actual itinerary when you are done to make a comparison of where Jamie and I want to travel once we retire. You have hit quite a few off my bucket list. Stay safe and enjoy the rest of your adventure. XXXX

    1. Hello Sue,
thanks for your lovely post. We had a fluid itinery & have done pretty much all we set out to do. Cheryl would have liked more time in Broome & Coral Bay as well as doing more fishing & having me cook more camp oven roasts. I wished I had gone to Wiluna & El Questro & spent more time at Ningaloo & done more fishing.
We both would not do Millstream Chichester NP again
      Love
      Stephen
