It is starting to get very cold brrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Hi everyone,

Thanks for reading our blog & your comments.

We left our lovely free camp on the Paroo River & travelled through the town of Eulo to Cunnamulla where we overnighted in the local caravan park. Cunnamulla is a service town for the agricultural sector. The next day we drove further south to the township of Bourke and stayed at Kidman’s Camp which is a great caravan park where we have previously stayed. We have really noticed the changing of vegetation – trees are getting larger, native plants & grasses are getting greener & we are seeing more pasture & different cattle breeds. The next day we drove south east through Nyngan to a free Camp on the Macquarie River just outside of Narromine. Whilst free camped we noticed one of Wally’s tyres had deflated considerably so Stephen swapped it over with the spare. Our campsite was a beauty with plenty of birdlife.

The next day saw us drive the short distance to Narromine. Narromine is a farming area with quite a bit of aviation history around World War 2. It is also the birthplace of Glenn McGrath whom is a retired Australian test cricket player who holds the record for most wickets by a fast bowler.

Then it was into Dubbo. Dubbo is a large town with a population of 42,000 people. It is a long-established town with some great old buildings & a vibrant art culture. We had our tyre replaced at the local dealer before driving further south through Parkes, Forbes & to the small town of Canowindra where we checked out the local museum for a unique kind of fish collection. The fossilised fishes are unique & said to be the best examples in the world.

After leaving Canowindra we travelled about 40 kilometres to a free camp at Gooloogong. We enjoyed a meal at the pub. We are now feeling the cold at night. We had a small fire with our gas heater which could have been very bad but luckily Stephen & I were able to use our extinguisher & put out the fire before the gas cylinder exploded.

Gas cylinder is still in situ.

After Gooloogong, we headed further south to Grenfell. Grenfell is a delightful little country town & is where Henry Lawson was born. For the benefit of our overseas followers – Henry Lawson is a famous early Australian.

Leaving Grenfell we travelled further south through Young & Cootamundra to Junee where we are camping along with 4 other vans at the Junee Golf Course. At Cootamundra we checked out “the Captains Walk” which is park with sculptures of every Australian Test Cricket Captain. Cootamundra was also the birthplace of Sir Donald Bradman the greatest batsmen in the world with an average of 99.94 runs.

  1. Thankyou for your response to our post. Cunnamulla is a typical outback town & of course we saw the murals, but did not know of your connection.. Take care.

  2. Cheryl, Graham saw a recall notice in the local paper, last week re your gas heater, I thought it may have been one like yours, it was recalled due to a fault and could cause a fire !
