Hello everyone.
Thank you for following & continuing to read our blog.
Last time we blogged we were overnighting at Calen around 20 – 40 kilometres north of Mackay. We are now in sugar cane country. We stayed in a great small caravan park and then up the Bruce Highway to Proserpine where we stocked up on supplies before driving another 30 kilometres to Airlie Beach where we stayed for three nights in a caravan park at Flametree near the airport
It was here that we caught up with Stephen’s brother, Michael, & his partner Erica. Michael & Erica had just returned from quite an adventure – they had travelled up to the northernmost tip of Australia, Cape York. We spent time catching up, and, the ladies went to a market, then had a swim. We did a little fishing, but it was too windy, so we went for lunch instead. We had planned to go on a cruise to some of the Whitsundays but unfortunately the cruise was cancelled.

After a great time with Michael & Erica we headed north whilst they continued south. We travelled through Bowen & Townsville. Prior to Townsville we caught up for a coffee with Roger Woolley & Sue Dart at Alligator Creek. They are also making their way south. After Townsville, we made camp at Mystic Sands Golf Course Resort near Balgal Beach.
We then had a good day’s drive through the sugar towns of Innisfail, Tully, Cardwell, Cairns and onto Port Douglas for a stay of two days. We checked out Port Douglas which has many tourist resorts and is very clean & green. We also enjoyed catching up with our Tasmanian friends, Gary & Margaret from Howrah.

After Port Douglas we travelled north approximately 250 kilometres to the historic town of Cooktown.
We are now really enjoying wonderful warm days & nights. We have checked out the town, learnt a decent bit of white & indigenous history, enjoyed a sunset cruise & 4wded the Bloomfield Track.

Cooktown has some lovely buildings

As usual , great photos , nice to see you back on the road again Cheryl, Iris told me you visited her on your return to Tassie
