Leaving Katherine we travelled up the Stuart Highway and turned off before Adelaide River and travelled on a very ordinary shortcut to Daly River.Daly River is considered a remote community. It has an airstrip for medical emergencies, a pub and some caravan parks. The major attraction of the area is its fishing. The river is a prolific barramundi fishery particularly following “the wet runoff”. Unfortunately, we are not here at the “run off” time. We had a fish for an hour but caught zilch. Cheryl, I think we should come back with our cartopper boat next year!

Daly River
The launching ramp is challenging!

After a relaxing 3 days at Daly River we again travelled on a fairly ordinary road to Adelaide River and through Batchelor to a bush camp near Litchfield National Park.
Litchfield National Park is an ancient landscape shaped by water. It features numerous stunning waterfalls which cascade from the sandstone plateau of the Tabletop Range.
The Park covers approximately1500 sq km and contains representative examples of most of the Top End’s natural habitats.

Buley Rockhole
Magnetic Termite Mound
Tolmer Falls
Wangi Falls

Toward the end of our first day in the park we had our way back to the township of Batchelor when we experienced engine trouble with our Mitsubishi Triton Dual Cab. the car was undriveable. Unfortunately, the engine trouble was beyond the capability of the mechanic at Adelaide River so we have had to have our car and caravan taken to Darwin. The car is at the Darwin Mitsubishi dealer and we are hopeful they can look at it next week!

Hitching a ride!

  1. Loved Lichfield, bad news about the car, I drive Mitsubishis & never had a problem, always found them bulletproof. Could it be the driver???

  2. Brings back some memories and not good ones. Our hitch hiking experience from Denham to Geraldton cost over $4,500. All sent to make life on the road interesting. Just stay safe the rest will sort itself out.
