Oh Dear – it happened again!!!!!!!!!

As you would have read in our last report we enjoyed ourselves in Darwin but left after nine nights. We made our way south down the highway to the historic town of Pine Creek.

Pine Creek is essentially a gold mining town which stumbled into existence when the teams building the Overland Telegraph Line in 1870 dug up some gold while digging holes for posts. Since 1870 it has had a variety of gold rushes with, at one time, over 2,000 Chinese miners working in the area and over 15 mines all being dug in the hope of finding gold. Today it is a remnant of a past time. A quiet community where tourism, particularly interest in the Northern Railway (1889-1976) and in the mining relics, attracts people who are fascinated by the simplicity, hardship and tenacity of the miners. We camped at the local racetrack which is known as Pussycat Flats.

Unfortunately, Cheryl’s heart went into AF. this necessitated us returning to Darwin, We took the caravan to Adelaide River and then I drove Cheryl to Royal Darwin Hospital where after all the tests she was admitted for the night and I drove the 80 kilometres back to Adelaide River. The next morning she was zapped and her heart returned to normal.
After being discharged we returned to Adelaide River for the night and the next day we drove to Mataranka where we are now staying. We are now looking at going to Queensland earlier than planned.

It appears we left Darwin just in time as the city has been locked down due to Covid 19 infections!

  1. Glad to hear that Cheryl is OK.

Looking forward to catching up when you come to QLD.

Hopefully we can catch up somewhere on the bush. It will give me an excuse for another trip in the caravan!
