Hi everyone,
Last time you heard from us we were in a dilemma about what to do with our travels because of the Covid 19 outbreak that occurred in Darwin and thegazetted lockdown.
We had left Darwin the day before it was declared a hotspot and locked down. We continued down the Stuart Highway and when we were camped at Daly Waters we resolved to get out of the Northern Territory before further lockdowns occurred.
We travelled down the Stuart Highway stopping at various Roadhouses to top up with fuel before turning off at Threeways and travelling across the Barkly Highway to the Queensland border. We had organised a Queensland permit online with a dodgy signal and made a phone call to Camooweal Police Station for clarification. The police were checking everybody going into the Northern Territory but we got through to Queensland without a physical police check.
We took two days to cover the 1100 kilometres free camping both nights before getting into Mount Isa.

Mount Isa is affectionally called “the oasis of the outback” and is the major western outback town in Queensland with mining being the major industry.
We left the “ISA” and travelled a short distance before spending a day and night at Mary Kathleen. Mary Kathleen was previously a Uranium mine which finished and closed for good in the 80’s. At its peak there was 1100 people at the town. Now, all that remains are numerous concrete pads where buildings stood and minimal mining infrastructure.

The next day we travelled further east to the small town of Julia Creek. We are free camped by the creek for a couple of days.
